Description du lieu patrimonial

Elliot House, located at 8445 Boston Church Road, is on the north east side of the intersection of Boston Church Road and Lawson Road in the Town of Milton. The two storey red brick residence was constructed circa 1840.

The property was designated by the Town of Milton in 1998 for its heritage value under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act (By-law 28-98).

Valeur patrimoniale

Elliot House is associated with Stephen Elliot, a local farmer who had the residence built in 1880.

Demonstrating the High Victorian taste for mixing architectural styles, the central tower and round and segmental arches are Italianate features, and the bargeboard on the gables are reflective of Gothic Revival style. The roofline is a major feature with its decorated gables, central tower with mansard roof, paired brick chimneys, wood cresting and fan-shaped finials. There is also a variety of window forms: bay windows, a French window, narrow paired windows, larger single windows, longer slender windows, and porthole dormer windows in the tower's roof. Mixed together these different architecture styles create a unique display of wealth.
