Description du lieu patrimonial
The Cascumpec United Church is a typical example of rural late Victorian church architecture in PEI. The white structure is located on the North Cape Coastal Drive, Route 12, in Cascumpec. It stands prominently against its tree lined cemetery. Both the church and the cemetery are part of the heritage registration.
Valeur patrimoniale
The Cascumpec United Church was built in 1871 by the Wesleyan Methodists of the area on land donated by John and Isabella Clark. This was the first Protestant Church in the area and all funds to construct the building were raised locally. It is a typical example of the many wooden rural churches, often painted white, which dot the Island that were constructed from the late Victorian era and into the Twentieth Century. In 1905, further additions were made to the structure with the construction of a side tower entrance and an organ and choir alcove.
