146 Waterloo Avenue is located on the south side of Waterloo Street, east of Fergus Street, in the City of Guelph. The property consists of a one-and-a-half-storey stone cottage that was constructed in 1857.

The property was designated, by the City of Guelph in 1990, for its heritage value, under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act, By-law (1990)-13688.

146 Waterloo Avenue is set back from the street on a large lot. It is fronted by an extensive garden. 146 Waterloo Avenue contributes to the historic character of Waterloo Avenue.

146 Waterloo Avenue is a fine example of stone craftsmanship in Guelph. The one-and-a-half-storey Regency style cottage was built, of local limestone, in 1857. Its symmetrical facade is highlighted by the entry, which is topped with a rectangular transom and flanked by three-paned sidelights and the symmetrical stone chimneys on the hip roof.
