Description du lieu patrimonial
Mancroft Church is a Municipal Heritage Property located in the Rural Municipality of Wolverine No. 340, approximately 15 kilometres south of the City of Humboldt. The property features a one-storey, wood-frame church constructed in 1910 and a cemetery founded in 1912.
Valeur patrimoniale
The heritage value of the Mancroft Church lies in its status as a place of religious worship. The community’s first Anglican Church was constructed on this site in 1904 and was replaced by the current church in 1910. Burials in the cemetery commenced in 1912. The church operated until 1967, when regular services were discontinued due to waning attendance. The church is still used for special services and, as one of the community’s oldest churches, is a landmark in the area.
The heritage value of the property also lies in its association with St. Peter’s Mancroft Anglican Church in Norwich England, which provided the current altar and the architectural plans for the church. In recognition, the church took the name of its benefactor.
