Description du lieu patrimonial
The Muenster Hotel is a Municipal Heritage Property located on two municipal lots at 401 Railway Street in the Village of Muenster. The property features a two-storey, wood frame hotel constructed in 1905.
Valeur patrimoniale
The Muenster Hotel is valued as one of the oldest buildings in Muenster. The hotel was built in 1905 to serve area travellers, many of whom were associated with Muenster's St. Peter’s Abbey, the first Benedictine Abbey established in Canada. Mike Schmidt, the builder and first owner, saw the need for a business that could offer meals and accommodation to the influx of settlers and chose the site for its proximity to the rail line. Today the large, utilitarian building continues to serve as a hotel, dining room and lounge.
