Statement of Significance

Description of Historic Place

The Martel Dairy Farm consists of a series of buildings including a one-and-a-half-storey house, a barn, and a milkhouse. It is located at 282 Canada Street in Saint-Quentin.

Heritage Value

The heritage value of the Martel Dairy Farm as a local historic place resides in its association with Saint-Quentin’s dairy industry. The history of Olivier Martel’s farm dates back to the origins of Saint-Quentin, around 1910, when family farms grew crops and raised livestock to meet the family’s needs. In the early 1940s, Olivier’s son, Noel Martel, turned the agricultural operation into a dairy farm that produced and delivered milk until the mid-1980s.
