Statement of Significance

Description of Historic Place

Located on Mont Farlagne Road in Edmundston’s Saint-Jacques District, Mont Farlagne is one of the largest sport facilities in the city. It consists of ski runs, post-modern buildings and ski lifts.

Heritage Value

Mont Farlagne is designated a Local Historic Place for its considerable impact on the tourist industry and the economic sector of the city of Edmundston and for its architecture.

Mont Farlagne is recognized for its tourism role in the region. Since 1969, it has offered the residents of the region and its many tourists the opportunity to engage in their favourite winter sport. Starting with just 4 trails, 1 lift, and a lodge in 1969, Mont Farlagne now has about 20 trails, 5 lifts, and 9 buildings used for various purposes by its many visitors. Mont Farlagne has therefore been in operation in the region for nearly 40 years, with only a few years of interruption: the 2002-2003 and 2003-2004 seasons.

Mont Farlagne is also recognized for its architecture. With the form and design of its buildings, it provides a good illustration of the post-modern architectural style of 1960-2004. The site was originally developed between 1968 and 1969.
