Description du lieu patrimonial
The Old Municipal Office is a Municipal Heritage Property occupying approximately 11 hectares of land in the Lions Sports Park on the outskirts of the Town of Strasbourg. The property features an altered one-storey, wood-frame building constructed in 1917.
Valeur patrimoniale
The heritage value of The Old Municipal Office resides in the important community role it played as offices for the Town of Strasbourg, and as the Municipality Office for the RM of McKillop No. 220 for a period of sixty-four years from 1917 to 1981. The centre of civic administration and a meeting place to discuss and resolve community concerns, its heritage value relates to the successful development of a community founded by hard-working pioneers. Originally, the Old Municipal Office was located in the central core of Strasbourg and the building’s “boomtown” façade projected the image of growth, stability, and permanence. This modest building's grand façade also provided a place for signage to advertise its business and contributed to Main Street's representation of the town's identity. In 1981, the building was moved to the Lions Sports Park for use as the park office. Its isolated setting in a field adds poignancy to the "boomtown" façade. Though the building has been significantly altered with an addition, new wall finishes, and removal from its original site and context, the Old Municipal Office continues to embody the prairie spirit.
