Description du lieu patrimonial

2305 Cornwall Street is a Municipal Heritage Property located on the corner of 15th Avenue and Cornwall Street in Regina's Transition Area. The property features a 2½-storey, Classical Revival house constructed in 1907.

Valeur patrimoniale

The heritage value of 2305 Cornwall Street lies in its association with the development of Regina’s Transition area. Constructed in 1907, Herman K. Gollnick had the home built as a wedding present for his wife. This wood-frame, 2½-storey house typifies many of the upper class homes that were built in the Transition Area prior to 1914. The house has been owned and occupied by the Gollnick family since its construction. As one of the oldest residences in Regina, this home is a landmark in the community.

The heritage value of 2305 Cornwall Street also lies in its Classical Revival architecture, which was popular throughout North America in the early 1900s. This house is the only known residence in Regina to be designed by prominent local architect W. W. Hilton. Classical elements appear in the distinctive wrap-around veranda with paired columns and spindle balustrade, pediment over the front entrance, decorative entablature, and hip-roof with gable dormers with Palladian windows. Based upon the classical forms of ancient Rome and Greece, the architectural style gives this property with a sense of stability and grandeur.
