Description du lieu patrimonial

Covenant Church is a Municipal Heritage Property located within the Rural Municipality of Morris No. 312, approximately five kilometres northeast of the Village of Young. The property features a small, one-storey, wood-frame church constructed in 1916 and a cemetery established the same year.

Valeur patrimoniale

The heritage value of the Covenant Church lies in the property’s association with the pioneers that settled in the area. In 1911, several Swedish families in the Young area established a congregation of the Swedish Mission Church (later renamed the Evangelical Covenant Church). By 1916, the congregation had constructed the small, vernacular wood-frame church on the property and established the cemetery. Weekly church services ended in 1925, and periodic services continued until 1971. Although the property has not been used for its original purpose for many years, it still stands as a reminder of the presence of early Swedish settlers and, through the cemetery, provides a link to the past for current residents of the community.
