Description du lieu patrimonial
Zion Lutheran Church is a Municipal Heritage Property located on a 0.36 hectare parcel of land in the Rural Municipality of Kingsley No. 124 approximately 8 km north of Windthorst. Built in 1926, the one-storey, wood-frame building is surrounded by mature fir trees on three sides.
Valeur patrimoniale
The heritage value of the Zion Lutheran Church lies in its association with religious and community functions. The church was built by local pioneers in 1926 and has served as the Windthorst and area Lutheran church and community gathering place since that time.
The heritage value of the church also lies in its architecture. Typical of many country churches, it is carefully designed and pleasantly proportioned, exhibiting elements of the Gothic Revival style in its pointed windows and the central bell tower with crenellation. Complementing the design of the building is the layout of the grounds. The tall row of fir trees which surrounds the building contributes to the church’s imposing nature. Not only do the trees help distinguish the property from the surrounding countryside, they also provide a dark background to accent the white church.
