Statement of Significance
Description of Historic Place
Located on Canada Street atop the cross on the steeple of the Très Saint-Sacrement church, the Steeple Rooster overlooks the town of Saint-Quentin.
Heritage Value
The Steeple Rooster is designated a Local Historic Place for its symbolic value for the residents.
First installed on the steeple of a church that burned in 1944, the Steeple Rooster was saved along with the cross supporting it. The rooster and the cross were repaired and placed at the top of the steeple of the new church built from 1946 to 1947. The Steeple Rooster commemorates the fire that destroyed the parishioners’ place of worship but spared the rectory and neighbouring houses. It also represents the enduring religious belief of most of the inhabitants of Saint-Quentin, even in the face of hardship.
