Statement of Significance

Description of Historic Place

12 Ada Avenue is located on the south side of Ada Avenue, west of Brant Avenue, in the City of Brantford. The two storey buff brick residence was constructed in circa 1891.

The property was designated, by the City of Brantford, in 1993, for its cultural heritage value, under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act, By-law 120-93.

Heritage Value

Constructed in circa 1891, 12 Ada Avenue is a good example of the Italianate style of architecture featuring a three-bay wide facade with an off-centre entrance. Typical of this style is the buff brick construction and decorated soffit and frieze above the second storey windows. Another feature of the design is the three-sided, two storey bay window on the east elevation. Windows are two over two, double hung sash windows, with segmented heads and radiating arched voussoirs.
