Statement of Significance

Description of Historic Place

The Carroll Residence is located at 131 Goderich Street, on the north side of Goderich Street, west of Ann Street, in Seaforth, in the Municipality of Huron East. The two-storey white brick residence was constructed in 1875.

The property was designated, by the former Town of Seaforth (now Municipality of Huron East) in 1978, for its heritage value, under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act, By-law 12 (1978).

Heritage Value

Located on a large lot, close to the downtown of Seaforth, the Carroll Residence is an important element in the historic streetscape of Goderich Street.

The Carroll Residence is a two-storey white brick residence that was built in 1875. The residence was originally constructed as a square plan in the Italianate style but was altered, in 1885 to include a “T” shaped façade, with a decorative gable. Typical of the Italianate style, the house has a hip roof and wide over hanging eaves, with large decorative brackets. The house also features large round arched windows with ornate drip moulds.
