Statement of Significance

Description of Historic Place

37 Ridout Street South is located on the northwest corner of Ridout Street South and Ingleside Place, south of Thames Park in the City of London. The property consists of a two-and-a-half-storey rubble-stone residence that was constructed in 1900.

The property was designated in 1986 by the City of London for its heritage value under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act (By-law L.S.P. 2897-270).

Heritage Value

Constructed in 1900, 37 Ridout Street South is a good representation of Queen Anne style residential architecture. Its large rubble-stone construction is rare for the City of London and provides an interesting massing to the intricate detailing of the Queen Anne style. Typical of the Queen Anne style is the steeply pitched gable roof, large veranda, second-storey balcony and tower with conical roof and finial. Also of note is the cast iron and rubble-stone fence bordering the east and south sides of the property.
