Statement of Significance

Description of Historic Place

Moulée Poirier, a commercial building, is located on Main Street, in Shediac. Built in circa 1880, this vernacular boomtown building is located in the town’s oldest commercial block.

Heritage Value

The heritage value of Moulée Poirier as a local historic place resides in its association with the town’s oldest commercial block. This block, one of the oldest in the Acadian Maritimes, is made up of four buildings: the Thompson-Landry Building, the Ouellet Tinsmith and Hardware Store, the Canada Customs/Ovila LeBlanc Building, and Moulée Poirier. This building was occupied by various businesses over the years, including Moulée Poirier during the 1920’s and 1930’s. Since its construction circa 1880, the building has undergone a number of modifications in order to accommodate the various businesses it successively housed. However, this small vernacular style one-storey building with a parapet wall façade maintains its typical boomtown appearance.
