Statement of Significance

Description of Historic Place

The Daigle House, located on Sutton Road in the former village of Nelson-Miramichi, now the City of Miramichi, is an ornate two-storey Queen Anne Revival residence. This elegant home is situated on a corner lot overlooking the scenic view of Beaubear's Island on the Miramichi River.

Heritage Value

The Daigle House, a tastefully embellished home, is architecturally significant as one of the few residences in the area exemplifying the craftsmanship and detail of Queen Anne Revival residences of that era. This residence was built circa 1910 by cabinetmaker Michael Ronan following his return from the United States where he worked his trade. Ornate detail exemplifies an influence less common to the area. Ronan and his sister lived in this home.

The Daigle House is also significant for its association with its later resident, Davey Daigle, who was manager of the local O'Brien General Store and a long time employee of Lt. Gov. J. Leonard O'Brien in the former village of Nelson-Miramichi.
