Description of Historic Place
Thomas Vondy House is a one-and-a-half storey Gothic Revival style residence. It is located on a corner lot on Wellington Street and bounded by Elm Park in Miramichi East.
Heritage Value
Thomas Vondy House is designated a Local Historic Place for its architecture and for its association with one of its former owners.
Thomas Vondy House is recognized for its architecture. It is a fine example of Gothic Revival style of residential architecture. This one-and-a-half storey house was constructed circa 1860. It exhibits the traditional overall symmetry and elaborate woodwork associated with this style. The size, style and quality of the residence represent an era of economic prosperity in the former ship building town.
Thomas Vondy House is also recognized for its association with one of its former owners. Thomas Vondy Jr. was a merchant and a postmaster during the early development of the former Town of Chatham.

Character-Defining Elements
The character-defining elements that describe the Gothic Revival Architecture of the Thomas Vondy House include:
- rectangular one-and-a-half storey massing;
- steeply pitched gable roof;
- clapboard siding;
- symmetrical placement of rectangular windows with entablatures;
- balanced placement of two chimneys;
- bargeboard under the eaves;
- dormers on the front façade that break the cornice;
- dormer hood mounts decorated with ornate bargeboard and finials;
- central frontispiece embodies front entrance and vestibule is embellished with brackets, pilasters and cornice work;
