Blair was a tailor and kept a shop in the old stone Pallen Building in the Historic Water Street District of the former Town of Chatham, now Miramichi. He was also Chatham's first meteorologist for the Government of Canada. He had a keen interest in the betterment of the community and gave lectures at the Mechanics' Institute. He held the appointments of Justice of the Peace and Police Magistrate. The home is also associated with Dr. Bliss Marven who practiced medicine while he resided here from 1910-1934.
