Statement of Significance

Description of Historic Place

Ernest Hagerman Residence is located in the Trinity Royal Preservation Area of the City of Saint John. It is a two-storey concrete building with wooden cornice and twin bay windows that was built in the early 1930's.

Heritage Value

Ernest Hagerman Residence is designated a local historic place for its architecture and for its association with its former residents.

Ernest Hagerman, a carpenter, used cement for this building and added wooded cornice on top of the bay windows which made it unique. The Ernest Hagerman Residence was built in the early 1930's. Most buildings, at the time of this construction, in the Trinity Royal area were made of brick.

Hagerman resided here until the mid-1960. Fred Grant and Percy Carlson lived with him for many years. Grant had a tobacco shop on Charlotte Street and Carlson was manager of Laurie's Auto Parts.
