Statement of Significance
Description of Historic Place
Alexander Robinson Residence is located on University Avenue in the City of Miramichi. It is a 2-story Victorian-era home with Queen Anne influence, built by the owner in 1896.
Heritage Value
Alexander Robinson Residence is designated a Local Historic Place for its association with Alexander Robinson and for its architecture.
Alexander Robinson, the prominent resident owner, was a carriage manufacturer and farm implement dealer who carried on his well-established business close to his premises. His trade involved the production of the sloven, a type of freight wagon widely used in its day. During a horrific block fire in October of 1895, he lost his business and home, but rebuilt both the following year. Robinson was interested in community affairs and served on Town Council.
The home is also recognized for its architecture and ornate detail. It is a good example of a Victorian-era home with Queen Anne influence. It exudes the owner's abilities in craftsmanship.
