Statement of Significance
Description of Historic Place
The Railway Station Warehouses consist of a very long cedar shingle clad structure with a moderately pitched gable roof. They are located near the reconstructed railway station on Canada Street in Saint-Quentin.
Heritage Value
The heritage value of the Railway Station Warehouses as a local historic place resides mainly in their historic value, since Saint-Quentin was founded as a result of the opening of the railway linking Campbellton and Saint-Léonard. Built in the early 1930s, the Railway Station Warehouses are significant as the only vestige of rail transportation in Saint-Quentin.
From the founding of Saint-Quentin in 1910 until the opening of Route 17 in the late 1920s, the railway was this community’s only means of transportation and communication. In the late 1970s, road transportation replaced rail transportation for good, and the train station was demolished. In 1965, the Coopérative de Saint-Quentin bought the warehouses and transformed them into a mill.
