Description of Historic Place

The Old Royal Bank Building is a two-storey, red brick, commercial building of Neo-Classical design, located on William Street near Hall Street in Dalhousie. The Local Historic Place designation is for the building on its footprint.

Heritage Value

The Old Royal Bank Building is designated a Local Historic Place due to its architecture. The building is unique in Restigouche County for being an expression of Neo-Classical commercial architecture. Built circa 1930, this building exhibits such traditional elements of this style as the symmetrical five-bay front façade, full-height pilasters and classical enclosed portico.

The character-defining elements of the Old Royal Bank Building include:

- lateral gable roof with chimneys at the extremities;
