Statement of Significance

Description of Historic Place

The Pinkney House is located at 31 Goderich Street West, on the north side of Goderich Street West, west of Ann Street, in the Town of Seaforth, in the Municipality of Huron East. The one-and-a-half storey stucco residence was constructed in 1846.

The property was designated, by the former Township of Seaforth (now Municipality of Huron East) in 1985, for its heritage value, under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act, By-law 18-1985.

Heritage Value

The Pinkney House reflects a vernacular style. Built in 1846 the house is known for its unique embellishments and ornamental gardens. Gothic elements include the bargeboard trim on the gable ends, as well as the finial, on the top of the front and west gable. Of note is the front veranda with its unique curved roof, its railings and its decorative trim. Important features also include the landscape design and ornamental gardens.
