Statement of Significance

Description of Historic Place

7003 Highway 6 is situated northwest of Sideroad 5 and west of Beatty Line North, in the former Town of Nichol, now the Township of Centre Wellington. This one-and-half storey hand made red-brick building was constructed in 1860.

The property was designated, for its cultural heritage value and interest, by the Township of Centre Wellington, under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act (By-law 2006-031).

Heritage Value

7003 Highway 6 is a one-and-a-half-storey residence built in 1860. It is significant for its hand made red-brick walls in a stretcher pattern with occasional rows of common bond, end laid, along with ornamental yellow-brick quoins. The windows are mostly 1 over 1 sash, with segmental arches of yellow-brick voussoirs with descending tabs. The front wood porch was designed to repeat the segmented arches of the windows. The single chimney was likely a later brick addition. This house retains a harmonious setting in a dense evergreen wind-break.
